Markus&Markus Theaterkollektiv:
Ibsen:Gespenster

«Ibsen:Gespenster» is a play about dying and, at the same time, the elixir of life. The work is over ten years old and still one of the most radical and intimate works that contemporary performance theatre has produced.

On 1 April 2014, the theatre collective Markus&Markus meets 81-year-old Margot and accompanies her with a camera during her last days as she organises her affairs, makes her final visits to the doctor, attends farewell parties and finally travels to Switzerland for assisted suicide. On 22 May 2014, they attend Margot's funeral.

«Ibsen:Gespenster» documents this special encounter and pays tribute to its protagonist. Margot not only agreed to take part in this theatre project, she also helped to shape it by selecting the music and the colours of the set design. Her favourite flowers are on stage. The result is a celebration of life, a Dinner for One in which the lady at the table has already followed her deceased friends.

«Ibsen:Gespenster» was originally supposed to be a guest performance at the second edition of «It's The Real Thing» in 2015. External circumstances prevented this from happening. Now the festival is fulfilling a long-cherished wish and is delighted to finally be able to show this play.

«Documentary theatre could hardly be more radical.» NZZ
