It is the artistic work that has caused more of a stir in the international theater world over the past two years than any other.
On stage, director Carolina Bianchi tells the story of performance artist Pippa Bacca. In 2008, Bacca set out on a journey from Milan to Jerusalem in a wedding dress, hitchhiking to send a message of peace between people. The venture ended in tragedy: she was raped and murdered on her journey. Was her action courageous? Or just plain foolish?
Based on Bacca's story and the work of other artists who use their own bodies as a means of protest and as a target, Bianchi delves deeper and deeper into the world between art and violence. And she goes one step further. Slowly, the knockout drops—known in Brazil as «Goodnight Cinderella»—that Bianchi has taken on stage begin to take effect. She loses consciousness and the eight performers of the collective take over. An artistic monument between Marina Abramovic and Richard Wagner begins to unfold.
With this globally discussed performance, Bianchi puts her own body on the line. «The Bride and The Goodnight Cinderella» is a stunning odyssey, magnificently composed, full of tragic poetry and wicked humor. It is said that some people fainted, but we were simply enchanted. Our grand opening production.
«This performance single-handedly shook up Avignon in the first week of the festival and made Bianchi a sensation.»
