«The Making of Pinocchio» is one of the biggest surprise hits of the last two years. After more than eighty performances worldwide, the production continues its successful tour and comes to “It's The Real Thing.”
Who doesn't know the story of the wooden puppet who wanted to become a real boy? But what does it mean to become a real boy? «The Making of Pinocchio», Rosana Cade and Ivor MacAskill explore this question. On a film set, they meet the cricket, the fairy, Gepetto, and the famous whale as the transformation gradually takes place.
But here, everything is different and has a double meaning: the artist couple began developing «The Making of Pinocchio» in 2018 as a response to Ivor MacAskill's own gender transition. In a surprising way, the two combine their experiences with the ambiguous story of the wooden puppet who wants to be a «real boy». The focus of this tender work, which is the product of this metamorphosis, is on shared change. It raises the big question: what happens when the person you love suddenly turns into someone else? A grandiose theatrical machine is set in motion, full of inventiveness, real life experiences, and dry British humor.
«The Making of Pinocchio is a wonderfully playful, complex, bold, courageous, and deeply moving story about transformation and potential.»
